Improving productivity in the workplace should have a top priority in the internal processes of an organization. Irrespective of the size of your business, you can’t get it right all the time, which gives room for more improvements. However, productivity in the workplace is affected by different factors.

Factors like the working environment, operational process, organizational policies, and so on. In light of this, I would like to share some overlooked ways to improve productivity.

5 OVERLOOKED WAYS TO IMPROVE PRODUCTIVITY IN THE WORKPLACE

1. REDUCE DISTRACTIONS/INTERRUPTIONS.

Every distraction steals a bit of your attention, the more distraction you get, the more your tendency you have not doing your assigned work. It might affect your productivity. I’ve heard of some organizations that tell their staff not to use personal phones during working hours.

2. GIVING INCENTIVES.

One way to improve productivity in the workplace is to give employees opportunities to make more money or other incentives for themselves, it can be in form of commission on sales, quick completion of tasks assigned, and so on. The incentive should be known to everyone, transparency is also key when doing it.

3. CELEBRATE EACH OTHER

According to a video of the late Jack Welch I came across when he was the CEO of General Electric (GE). He said they look for reasons to bring cake into the office, this helps to foster team bonding which improved productivity in the workplace.

In SOFTCODES, we also look for ways to celebrate each other, it comes in different ways (birthdays, weddings, naming ceremonies, a breakthrough on a job, bringing of sales/deals, completion of a training e.t.c). This has helped to transform SOFTCODES into a family.

4. DELEGATE TASK

You should learn to delegate some tasks, don’t keep it all to yourself. This would reduce your workload, improve your lifestyle, free up more time for you, and more. Though delegation comes with some risks, you should delegate tasks to those who can deliver. Delegation of tasks also serves as a way for employees to gain more skills.

5. EMBRACING TECHNOLOGY

Improving productivity in the workplace can be done when using the right or necessary tools. If there are tasks that can be automated, why do it manually which can be prone to error or fatigue. For instance, instead of writing receipts manually or not knowing the level of stock you have or unable to connect all units of your business, this can be done using ERP software.

Conclusively, to improve productivity in the workplace, one needs to implement policies and strategies that are employee-friendly without having a negative impact on the employer or organization.
